Coming off the greatest season in program history, Ken Piepenbrink enters his sixth year as the Greyhound head coach in 2009-10. The veteran golfer guided his 2008-09 squad to its fourth GLVC crown -- a league record -- as well as a program-best third-place showing at the NCAA Championship. He also mentored two All-Americans last season in NCAA D-II individual national-champion Lyndsay McBride and a two-time GLVC Player of the Year Kristi Piepenbreink.
Piepenbrink’s teams have also developed a strong reputation of excelling in the classroom. The UIndy women’s golf team has ranked in the top 16 in Division II the last four years in team GPA, including a fourth-place finish in 2007.
In 2007-08, Piepenbrink’s team earned a top-three finish in 10 of 15 tournaments, including grabbing runner-up honors at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and a third-place finish at the NCAA East Regionals.
Individually, Piepenbrink’s daughter Kristi earned her first GLVC Player of the Year honor while Sarah Prascsak finished tied for 15th at the NCAA DII Women’s Golf Championship. Also, all six team members garnered Academic All-GLVC honors.
Piepenbrink guided his women's golf team to a successful 2006-07 both on and off the course. After placing second at the GLVC Championship, the Hounds earned a trip to the NCAAs for the first time since 2004. Three Greyhounds garnered all-conference honors, including GLVC "Freshman of the Year" Sarah Prascsak. In the classroom, the team combined for an average GPA of 3.720, the highest GPA among all Division II women's golf squads and the fourth highest among all NCAA schools.
In the 2005-06 campaign, Piepenbrink mentored two all-conference performers, including his daughter, the 2006 NGCA Division II "Freshman of the Year." The younger Piepenbrink capped an outstanding rookie season with a second-place finish at the NCAA East Regional and a 19th-place performance at nationals. The squad's average GPA of 3.591 was the 10th highest among all NCAA women's golf teams.
Now in his sixth season as the women's head coach, Piepenbrink began his career at the University of Indianapolis in 1991 as Director of Physical Plant.
Before arriving at UIndy, Piepenbrink taught Industrial Education and Physical Education for eight years and owned a General Construction Company for another eight years.
Over the past 25 years, he has continuously been involved coaching golf, basketball, softball, and volleyball.
His most recent success came at Greenwood High School, where he coached the girls' golf team to a three-year record of 150 victories, three sectional championships, three conference championships, three regional appearances and a team berth in the State Finals.
Ken has also coached his daughters, Kari and Kristi, to four individual State Finals appearances, several state age group championships and numerous victories in the Indiana Junior Golf Association.
Ken is also a member of the Valle Vista Golf Club, where he has been club champion numerous times.
Ken is a graduate of Indiana State, where he played basketball and was the captain of the Bowling Team. He attended Indiana University for his graduate work.
He is married to Debbie and both of his daughters are attending the University of Indianapolis.
