INDIANAPOLIS- In the last of four first-round matches, the ninth-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team earned a straight set win over Michigan Tech – 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 – to advance in the NCAA D-II Midwest Regional Thursday night.  As the region’s top seed, the Greyhounds are first-time hosts of the eight-team volleyball regional, as Saginaw Valley State, Lewis and Hillsdale also advanced.

On tap:  The Greyhounds welcome Findlay to Nicoson Hall Saturday night.  The Oilers (2-0) are the NCAA Division II defending national champions and bring a 38-game winning streak into the contest.  UF went unscathed through its 2008-09 schedule (36-0) and won the national title on a buzzer-beating triple by graduated-senior Tyler Evans.

Did you know?: The University of Indianapolis will host the NCAA Division II Volleyball Midwest Regional at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.  It is the first time UIndy has been the host site.  UIndy will take on eight-seed Michigan Tech Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -  The University of Indianapolis placed four wrestlers in the top six in their respective weight brackets at the Michigan State Open on Sunday.  J.T. Jenkins led the Hounds with a second-place finish in the freshman/sophomore 174-pound class, while Ethan Harris, Nick Walpole, and David Lopez all placed fourth in their weight brackets.

INDIANAPOLIS-  The Greyhound men's basketball team opened its regular season schedule with a 79-60 win over Mount St. Joseph's at Nicoson Hall Sunday evening.  UIndy (1-0) used a 24-4 run in the second half to pull away and post the win.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.- The ninth-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team achieved a major season goal Sunday by capturing the 2009 Great Lakes Valley Conference title.  Sunday’s final featured the league’s top two seeds, with the second-seeded Greyhounds coming out on top of the host Lewis Flyers in four sets, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21, and 25-16.

INDIANAPOLIS- The 11th-ranked University of Indianapolis women’s basketball team received a 20-point game from both Samantha Meissel (pictured) and Jessica Canary in its 66-50 win over St. Catharine at Nicoson Hall Sunday afternoon.  Meissel and Canary combined for 42 points as the victory made Head Coach LeAnn Freeland three-for-three in season openers at UIndy.
