INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-  Senior men's golfer Justin Hueber, senior women's golfer Kristi Piepenbrink and junior softball player Megan Russell were named the University of Indianapolis Male and co-Female Athletes of the Year, respectively, for the 2008-09 season.   Hueber was a First Team All-American, helping the Hounds to a tie for sixth place at the NCAA National Championships.  Piepenbrink was tied for fifth individually at nationals as the team advanced past the regionals for the first-time ever en route to a tie for third nationally.  Russell demolished the school's homerun record and helped pitch UIndy to its first DII World Series berth.

NCAA Championship run comes to an end

SALEM, Va.-  The University of Indianapolis' run at the NCAA Championships came to an end Saturday with a loss to Lock Haven, 2-0, at James Moer Complex.  The loss ends UIndy's season, a campaign that saw the Hounds make their first-ever trip to the College World Series.

SALEM, Va.-   The University of Indianapolis softball team defeated No. 19 Dixie State College, 3-0 to advance in the NCAA Division II Softball Championships Saturday afternoon.  The Greyhounds will now face Lock Haven University in the double-elimination tournament.

Angelo State grabs 3-1win in World Series opener

SALEM, Va.- Fourth-ranked Angelo State grabbed a 3-1 win over the University of Indianapolis in the opening game of the 2009 NCAA Division II Softball Championships at the James I. Moyer Complex Thursday afternoon.  UIndy (36-20) led 1-0, but it would not hold up as the Rambelles scored three times in the final four innings to take the win.

Russell named All-American
SALEM, Va.-  Junior pitcher/designated player Megan Russell was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Second Team, announced tonight at the annual awards banquet at the NCAA Division II Softball Championships.  Russell later earned the third All-America honor of her career when she was named to the Daktronics Third Team, a feat she also did as a freshman.

World Series bound!
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.-   The University of Indianapolis softball team will make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II World Series with a doubleheader sweep of host No. 13 Saginaw Valley State Saturday in the Super Regional round at the SVSU Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.  The Greyhounds posted wins of 5-2 and 12-3 to advance to the eight-team championships next week.

Seventh-inning unearned runs costly in 2-1 loss
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- A pair of two-out errors in the bottom of the seventh inning helped host Saginaw Valley State to a 2-1 win in the first game of the NCAA Super Regionals Friday at SVSU Athletic Complex.  The Hounds had a dropped popup and a errant throw combine to give SV both runs and the first win in the best-of-three series.

Russell, Swanson earn all-region honors
EVANSVILLE, Ind.-  Junior Megan Russell and senior Maggie Swanson have each earned recognition on the 2009 Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Softball Team released today.  Russell is the region's first team honoree at designated player and Swanson garnered a second-team nod in the outfield.  The pair have helped UIndy advance to the NCAA Super Regionals set for Friday and Saturday at Saginaw Valley State University.

Hounds beat Wayne State in Midwest Regional championship!
ASHLAND, Ohio-  Maggie Swanson hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning helping UIndy to a 6-4 win in the championship game of the NCAA Midwest Regional at Brookside Park.  The win marked the first regional championship for softball at UIndy and puts the Hounds in the final 16 teams in all of Division II.
