Opfer, Reese earn Daktronics All-Region accolades

Opfer takes first team spot, Reese gets second team nod

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- Senior Alli Opfer and junior Amanda Reese both earned spots on the 2008 Daktronics Division II Women's Soccer All-Midwest teams, with Opfer taking a defender spot on the first team and Reese taking a forward position on the second team.

The teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., and voted on by region sports information directors. With her First-team All-Midwest Region selection, Opfer is now eligible to be named to the 2008 Daktronics Division II Women's Soccer All-America team, to be announced on Dec. 2.

Opfer, in her third year of soccer after a two-year basketball career with the Greyhounds, helped the Hounds to 10 shutouts on the year in the backfield, and also scored three goals and added an assist on the year. One of Opfer's goals included a header with 25 seconds left in the second overtime to give UIndy a 1-0 win against Quincy in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. This is Opfer's first appearance on an All-Region team, as she earned first team all-GLVC this year and all-GLVC second team accolades last season and Honorable Mention props her first year.

Reese, the team's leading scorer, led the Hounds with eight goals on the year, and also had one assist. The junior started all 18 games and had three game-winning goals to her credit in 2008. This is the first time Reese has appeared on the Daktronics All-Region listings, although she was an NSCAA All-Region second team selection last season. The junior forward was also a second team All-GLVC selection this season, after taking first team honors last season and honorable mention her freshman year.

Grand Valley State placed four of its players on the All-Midwest first team, including Midwest Region Player of the Year Katy Tafler. Wisconsin-Parkside earned two spots on the first team.
