Football places five on All-GLIAC squads

Complete 2008 All-GLIAC Football Teams (.pdf)

BAY CITY, Mich.-  The Greyhound football team was honored with five different players earning All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference accolades, league officials announced Thursday.  All five honorees garnered second team plaudits, three on the defense and two more on the offensive side of the ball.  Six other players were named to the honorable mention team.

Craig Jenkins polished off his decorated Greyhound career by breaking his own school record for rushing yards in a season, racking-up 1,324 yards along the ground this season.  That total surged him past 3,000 for his career, giving him the second-most rushing yards in the school's history (3,182).  Jenkins collected seven 100-yard rushing games this season for 15 in his career.  His 120.36 yards per game average ranked eighth in all of Division II this season.  The award marked his second all-league nod, after being named first team following his 2006 season.

Tim Dury centered the offensive line that created holes for the explosive Greyhound rushing attack.  The Bishop Chatard grad helped UIndy churn-out over 2,500 yards on the ground this season as three different ball carriers had over 450 yards and six touchdowns apiece (Jenkins, Deontrai Campbell, Lance Lasker).

Leonard Bush, a first team honoree last year, gathered his second All-GLIAC award for his senior campaign.  Bush played in all but one game this season, finishing second on the team in total tackles (81) with 4.5 for loss.  The Cincinnati, Ohio native totaled 279 total stops in his four-year career including 21.0 tackles for loss.

Joining him was Craig Ray, sophomore defensive back who made his impact felt quickly in his first full season on that side of the football.  After spending his freshman campaign in Greyhound offensive backfield due to injuries, Ray returned to the defense and was an impact starter, playing in all 11 games.  The Plainfield, Ind. native registered a team-high four interceptions this season, including a return for touchdown at Tiffin.  Ray led the squad with 13 passes defended and had 80 total tackles, third-most on the team.

Randall Courtney led the defensive line, tallying 11.5 sacks this season.  That total ranks tied for sixth for most by a Greyhound in a single season.  Courtney has amassed 23.5 tackles for loss combined in the past two seasons.  He finished this season with a career-high 51 total tackles, including 10 in the season finale win vs. Northern Michigan.

The six UIndy honorees on the honorable mention squad were: Deontrai Campbell, Mike Dum, Maxwell Frempong, Stephen Geller, Jason Smith and Louis Vesta.
