Four Hounds honored by NSCAA

Opfer, Reese, Soza, Tracy earn All-Region nods

2008 NSCAA All-Region Teams

KANSAS CITY, Kan.- Four Greyhound women's soccer players were selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Midwest Region teams. Seniors Alli Opfer (first team) and Abby Tracy (third team) earned the honor, while junior Amanda Reese (second team) and freshman Lauren Soza (second team) were also selected.

Opfer, who has already earned Daktronics All-American honorable mention, Daktronics All-Region and All-GLVC first team honors this season, closed out her UIndy career this season after three years on the soccer field. A key to the Greyhound backfield, Opfer helped UIndy to 10 shutouts on the year. The Herndon, Va. native added three goals and an assist on the offensive side of the ball. Her third goal of the season was a header with 25 seconds left in the second overtime to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 upset win against Quincy in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. This is Opfer's first time appearing on an NSCAA All-Region squad.

The team's offensive leader in 2008, Reese, paced the Hounds with eight goals on the year, and also had one assist. The junior started all 18 games and had three game-winning goals to her credit in 2008. The NSCAA All-Region listings are no stranger to Reese, as she earned second team honors last season. In addition to her NSCAA selection, Reese was also named to Daktronics' second team All-Region, and was a second team All-GLVC selection.

A freshman newcomer to the 2008 squad, Soza started in the midfield in all 18 UIndy contests, posting two goals and four assists on the year. In addition to her NSCAA selection, Soza also found recognition from the GLVC, earning a spot on all-conference third team.

Tracy closed out her UIndy career with a strong year minding the Greyhound goal. She was the keeper behind nine of the 10 overall UIndy shutouts on the year, and boasted a goals against average of 0.65 for the season. She allowed just 12 goals in more than 1,600 minutes of work, and also had one assist on the year. Tracy and the Greyhound defense did not allow a goal for more than 700 consecutive minutes over one stretch during the season, spanning nine contests. In addition to earning NSCAA recognition, Tracy was also selected to the All-GLVC second team.
