INDIANAPOLIS- University of Indianapolis Head Volleyball Coach Jody Butera announced the early signing of
Katy Watson (Bargersville, Ind.) to her 2009 squad. Butera didn't have to look far to bag the 6-1 middle blocker as Watson comes to UIndy via local Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind.
At CGHS, Watson led the Trojans in blocks as a junior and a senior and garnered second-team accolades from the county and the conference both seasons. She was a four-time All-MIC Academic Team member and garnered All-State Academic Honorable Mention in 2008.
"Katy is a great all-around athlete with a high ceiling.” says Butera. “She's very explosive with quick feet. I am excited to be working with Katy as she has the necessary tools to become an outstanding volleyball player at UIndy in the near future."
In addition to her court skills, Watson also excelled as a thrower for the Center Grove track & field squad. She is the school record holder in the shot put and discus and placed in the top ten at the state meet in both events.
Watson will join a Greyhound volleyball team coming off back-to-back appearances in the NCAA regional semifinals. UIndy's 2008 season ended in a four-set loss to the eventual Midwest Regional champs and Final Four participant Grand Valley State.
