Fenneman leads Greyhounds to 10th win

Box score

WILBERFORCE, Ohio- Sophomore Sarah Fenneman recorded her first career double-double with a 20-point, 10-rebound performance Saturday to help the University of Indianapolis women's basketball team to a 79-66 road win versus Central State at Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.  Fenneman led five Greyhounds in double-digit scoring to snap CSU's five-game winning streak.

Fenneman surpassed her previous career-high of 11 in the first twenty minutes of play.  The Evansville, Ind. product finished the opening half with a game-high 13 points to help the Hounds to stay in front for a majority of the frame.

Central State (5-3) led 4-0 and 8-2 before the Greyhounds parlayed an 8-0 run into their first lead of the game.  A three from senior Shayla Henderson gave CSU an 11-10 edge at the 14:38 mark, but Fenneman answered with five straight points to retake the lead for UIndy, one it would ultimately not relinquish.

With the score 30-27 UIndy in the final minute of the stanza, freshman Caroline Schutzman scored the half's last five points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, to give the Hounds a seven-point advantage at the break.

After intermission, the UIndy lead quickly swelled to 16, thanks mainly to the long ball.  Jessica Canary and Isabell Rhenwrick hit back-to-back threes in the first three minutes of the second before Schutzman added one from distance a minute later, part of an 11-3 run from the Hounds.

Despite the Greyhound surge, the Lady Marauders were able to shift the momentum with a run of their own.  Central State cut the Greyhounds lead to just six with a 13-3 rally aided by a flurry of offensive rebounds.

With 11:30 left, UIndy (10-2) stopped the bleeding and then some with another three-point barrage.  Canary, Katie Dewey, and Schutzman bombed triples on consecutive possessions to push the lead back to 16 and essentially put the Lady Marauders away.  The Greyhounds led by double-digits the rest of the way to go on to their 10th win of the season.

The Lady Marauders used an effective press to help force a season-high 26 turnovers by the Hounds, but UIndy countered with a 24-for-46 (.522) effort from the field compared to 23-of-72 (.319) shooting from CSU.

Fenneman finished 6-for-9 from the floor and notched personal bests in points (20), rebounds (10), free throws made (8) and minutes played (35).  Canary contributed 14 points and five assists, Schutzman added 14 points and five rebounds, while Dewey totaled 12 points, seven boards, five assists and two steals.

UIndy returns home next weekend for a meeting with D-II Lincoln Memorial Saturday.  Tip time from Nicoson Hall is scheduled for 1 p.m.
