2008 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Teams
KANSAS CITY, Kan.- A pair of Greyhound women's soccer players earned national accolades from the NSCAA for their performance in the classroom, with seniors
Alli Opfer and
Abby Tracy both being named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Women's College Scholar All-America Teams. Opfer earned a spot on the College Division second team, while Tracy was selected to the College Division third team.
Both Opfer and Tracy were named to the Central Region's College Scholar All-Region first team, also named by the NSCAA and adidas.
Opfer earned her second team national selection by posting a GPA of 3.53 in pursuing her MBA in Psychology. The senior from Herndon, Va., started all 18 UIndy contests as a key cog in the Greyhound backfield that produced 10 shutouts on the year. Opfer scored three goals on the season, including a second-overtime game-winner in UIndy's first-round GLVC Tournament matchup with Quincy. She also had an assist on the year, and was an NSCAA All-Region first team selection, as well as a Daktronics All-American honorable mention choice. Opfer also recieved Daktronics All-Region honors and was a first team All-GLVC selection.
The go-to keeper for the Greyhounds, Tracy posted a GPA of 3.92 majoring in Biology and Chemistry. The senior, who racked up 10 shutouts on the year and boasted a goals against average of 0.65. She allowed just 12 goals in more than 1,600 minutes of work, and also had one assist on the year. Tracy and the Greyhound defense did not allow a goal for more than 700 consecutive minutes over one stretch during the season, spanning nine contests. In addition to earning NSCAA/adidas recognition, Tracy was also selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine All-Academic District V first team. She earned NSCAA All-Region third team honors, and was named to the All-GLVC second team.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a player must by at least a junior in academic standing, have no less than a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start at least 50 percent of the team's games and be nominated by an NSCAA member coach.
