The tournament will feature 21 teams from Divisions II and III and the NAIA in the field of squads from around the nation.  In their last action before the break, the squad posted a record of 1-3 on the day at the Newberry Duals. UIndy scored its lone win of the day against UNC-Pembroke.  Senior Kevin Flinn went a spotless 4-0 on the day, winning all of his bouts at the 174-pound weight class.  More information on the Midwest Classic tournament can be found here: http://athletics.uindy.edu/sports/2008/12/17/WREST_1217085132.aspx?id=155

Men's Basketball: Junior Larry Woods scored 18 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to help the Greyhounds to a 79-75 win over Saginaw Valley State at James O'Neill Ryder Center last Monday night.  Woods was 11-for-16 from the floor in the win, giving UIndy (4-6) its second consecutive win.  Tuesday, UIndy will hots Temple Baptist at Nicoson Hall before re-entering league play with road tilts at #11 Kentucky Wesleyan (Friday) and #18 Southern Indiana (Sunday).

Women's Basketball:
The women's basketball team (12-2) went on the road and held off Christian Brothers in a 71-65 final last Monday at Canale Arena. The one-two punch of junior Jessica Canary and sophomore Samantha Meissel combined for 40 points to help the Greyhounds hold off a persistent Lady Buccaneers squad.  The Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule gets back underway this week as the Hounds travel to Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Indoor Track and Field:
UIndy will take another week off before returning to action at the Purdue Invitational on Jan. 10.  In their last competition, a select group of UIndy track and field athletes traveled to Grand Valley State University for the GVSU Holiday Open.  Kevin Keene's efforts in the pentathlon was a new school record (4,286 points), helping him finish second in the event.  That point total is just over 200 points from the NCAA-provisionally qualifying mark of 4500 points. Chelsey Chang won the long jump with a leap of 5.66 meters.  Krista Leffers won her finals heat of the 60-meter hurdles to take tenth in the event (9.54).  She was also ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.52 meters.  Amy Schmitz was ninth in the shot put with a 11.91-meter heave.

Swimming and Diving:
The swimmers will continue training in preparation for the UIndy Invitational Jan. 9-10 at Ruth Lilly Center Pool.  In their last outing, the Hounds embarked on the two-day House of Champions Invite, contested at the IU Natatorium downtown Dec. 5-6.  The meet featured predominantly NCAA Division I teams including Ball State, Butler, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and host IUPUI.  15 of the 40 events were won by UIndy athletes.  Manuel Stiem (100 butterfly) and Alican Alacli (1,650 freestyle) each grabbed NCAA A-cut time standards during the meet and three men's relays punched their ticket to nationals with qualifying times in impressive wins.  The men finished in second place while the women took fourth at the event.
