UIndy nabs both GLIAC weekly swimming honors

INDIANAPOLIS- Erica Smith and Manuel Stiem were each named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Swimmer of the Week, announced by league officials Tuesday.  It marks the second honor of the year for both athletes, including the second straight week for Smith.

Smith had a pair of wins and two NCAA cut-times at the home dual versus Saint Mary's Friday.  She marked an "A"-cut with her 56.49 win in the 100 butterfly.  She also won the 200 individual medley in a "B"-cut time of 2:09.19.  She added a fly split of 26.13 in the team's 200 medley relay win.

Stiem earned his "A"-cut time in the 200 IM, finishing well ahead of the competition in 1:51.01, helping UIndy cruise to a 135-53 win over Wabash.  He also chipped-in to two relay wins, registering a 22.26 fly split in the 200 medley and led-off the 200 free with a 21.61 split.

Both teams are in action Saturday, traveling to Grand Valley State University for a GLIAC dual.
