Swimming and Diving:  The swimmers will host the annual UIndy Invitational Jan. 9-10 at Ruth Lilly Center Pool.  In their last outing, the Hounds embarked on the two-day House of Champions Invite, contested at the IU Natatorium downtown Dec. 5-6.  The meet featured predominantly NCAA Division I teams including Ball State, Butler, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and host IUPUI.  15 of the 40 events were won by UIndy athletes.  Manuel Stiem (100 butterfly) and Alican Alacli (1,650 freestyle) each grabbed NCAA A-cut time standards during the meet and three men's relays punched their ticket to nationals with qualifying times in impressive wins.  The men finished in second place while the women took fourth at the event.

Wrestling: UIndy's wrestling team came in 13th place overall in the 2009 Midwest Classic, and had three grapplers place in the tournament. Junior Matt Irwin led the Greyhounds, taking third place in the 141 bracket. Irwin, the bracket's No. 3-seed, defeated Gannon's A.J. Milanak in the third-place bout by a score of 4-2. He finished the tournament with a record of 4-1 overall. The bracket's No. 6-seed, senior Jimmy Nichols took sixth place in the 125 class, falling to Central Missouri's Byron Clark, the No.5-seed, in the fifth-place match. Overall, Nichols posted a 3-3 record for the two-day tournament.  No.8-seeded J.T. Jenkins came in seventh place in the 174 bracket, winning via a medical forfeit by Carson-Newman's Will Campbell in the placing match. Jenkins finished the tournament with a 3-2 record during the two days. No.5 Newberry ran away with the team title, and also had the Mike Horton Most Outstanding Wrestler, Josh Whitelock. UIndy heads to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville this weekend.

Men's Basketball: UIndy went 1-2 last week, beating Temple Baptist at home before falling at ranked-opponents: #11 Kentucky Wesleyan (Friday) and #18 Southern Indiana (Sunday).  The Greyhounds have now played five ranked squads this season and the teams that have beat UIndy this year own an astounding 74-15 combined mark.  Senior Braxton Mills collected 26 rebounds in three games last week to surpass 500 for his career.  UIndy (5-8, 0-4 GLVC) will host Missouri-St. Louis Thursday and Rockhurst Saturday at Nicoson Hall.

Women's Basketball: The UIndy women improved to 14-2 overall, 3-1 in GLVC play with a pair of road wins this past week at Kentucky Wesleyan and at Southern Indiana.  Friday's win over KWC saw junior guard Jessica Canary post 23 points to lead her team to a 61-51 win.  Sunday, the Hounds ran away from the host Screaming Eagles thanks in part to a blistering second-half shooting performance as the Hounds missed on just three of 20 opportunities in the second stanza.  Canary added 19 more points in the win and sophomore Samantha Meissel dropped-in 23, part of four Hounds in double figures.  The Hounds continue GLVC play this week, hosting Missouri-St. Louis and Rockhurst on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Indoor Track and Field:  UIndy will return to competition this weekend,  heading to the Purdue Invitational on Jan. 10.  In their last competition, a select group of UIndy track and field athletes traveled to Grand Valley State University for the GVSU Holiday Open.  Kevin Keene's efforts in the pentathlon was a new school record (4,286 points), helping him finish second in the event.  That point total is just over 200 points from the NCAA-provisionally qualifying mark of 4500 points. Chelsey Chang won the long jump with a leap of 5.66 meters.  Krista Leffers won her finals heat of the 60-meter hurdles to take tenth in the event (9.54).  She was also ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.52 meters.  Amy Schmitz was ninth in the shot put with a 11.91-meter heave.
