INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound swimming teams bested local talent at the recently-completed UIndy Invitational at Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Pool Saturday. This year's participants included all three collegiate swimming programs in the city (Butler, IUPUI and UIndy).
17 of the 18 events contested on Friday were won by a Greyhound athlete, with the lone non-winning event coming in a race that did not feature a UIndy athlete (men's 100 backstroke).
Highlights on Friday included
Ozlem Taskin winning the 200 freestyle, earning an NCAA B-cut in the process (1:56.13).
Erica Smith did the same in the 100 butterfly with her 57.39 time.
In Saturday's action, the Greyhounds continued their dominance, posting wins in all but two events. Both men's and women's 200 medley relay teams were victorious to start the day's action. Taskin won back-to-back events in the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle, part of three wins for her on the day (400 free relay).
Manuel Stiem was also part of the three winning events, taking the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly to go along with the 400 free relay.
The Greyhounds will host a meet next Friday as the women welcome Saint Mary's while the men compete with Wabash College at RLFC Pool. Action begins at 6:00 p.m.
