PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- The fifth-ranked University of Indianapolis women's golf team placed fourth among a tough field at the NSU Shark Invitational Tuesday, held at the par-72, 6,163-yard Palmer Course at PGA National. The field featured five of Division II's top-eight ranked teams, including top-ranked and host Nova Southeastern, who won the event by one stroke over No. 3 Rollins.
The win marked the Sharks' fifth consecutive win and their 10th victory in their last 12 tournaments, which included NSU's first NCAA Division II National Championship in program history. Rollins junior Joanna Coe took medalist honors by seven strokes with a two-day total of 139 (70-69).
UIndy senior
Lyndsay McBride continued her hot shooting as the 2009 D-II individual national champion again carded the low score for the Hounds. McBride fired scores of 74 and 73 to finish at three-over par and share fourth place.
The freshman pair of
Megan Kiley and
Lauren Vogt finished tied for 24th and 30th, respectively, as Kiley finished with a 159 (79-80) and Vogt carded a 161 (82-79).
Junior
Allison Tyler, pictured, matched Vogt's score thanks to an 80 Monday and an 81 Tuesday, and sophomore
Darin Pinnick rounded out the scoring with a 168 (82-88), good for a share of 44th.
Now done for the winter, UIndy picked up three team titles this semester, with McBride also managing three wins individually. The Greyhounds will return to Florida to open the spring potion of their schedule as participants in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Winter Springs, Fla. Mar. 9-10.
