Men's soccer makes it three straight with 2-1 overtime win over Hawks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Greyhound men's soccer team picked up their third straight victory with a 2-1 overtime decision at Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Rockhurst University on Friday evening.

Despite being outshot by the Hawks 8-2 in the first half, the Greyhound defenese managed to keep Rockhurst off the scoreboard behind three saves by netminder Justin Roberts.

Indianapolis broke the scoreless tie with a Roger Lee goal in the 49th minute off an assist by Max Marsh.  Lee connected from 16 yards out, beating Rockhurst keeper Ryan Bass to give the Hounds a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks (8-7-0, 6-5-0 GLVC) forced overtime after a goal by Curt McDonald with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation tied the score at 1-1 at the end of regulation.  McDonald's tally came from six yards out off a double assist from Sean Verbanic and Patrick White.

A goal by freshman Bobby Adkins netted the game-winning goal in the 96th minute on an assist by Lee to give the Greyhounds their second overtime win in as many games.  The goal was Adkins' team-high ninth of the season and his 21st point, while Lee notched his 17th point on the assist and his eight goal of the season earlier in the contest.

With the win, UIndy improves to 7-5-2 on the season and evens their GLVC record at 5-5-1.  The Hounds will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Drury.  The Panthers, ranked No. 5 in the nation, stand at 13-1-0 in the season and 10-1-0 in the GLVC after losing their first match of the year in action earlier today against Northern Kentucky.
