KENOSHA, Wis. -- A
Shelby Spinelli penalty kick propelled the Greyhound women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday afternoon.
The Rangers (5-3-2, 4-3-1 GLVC) outshot UIndy by an 8-2 margin in the first half of play, but the Hounds were awarded a penalty kick after forward
Amanda Reese was taken down inside the box by a UWP defender. Spinelli took the penalty opportunity and deposited it in the back of the net for her sixth goal and 17th point of the season.
The Greyhound defense made sure the 1-0 advantage would stand as they thwarted off an offensive attack by the Rangers that featured three shots in as many minutes in the latter moments of the match. The loss was the first for Wisconsin-Parkside on their home field since 2006 and the first victory for UIndy over the Rangers since 1999.
Parkside fired 17 shots to UIndy's seven, however only four Ranger attempts reached Greyhound goalkeeper
Shae Morris who earned her sixth shutout of the season and ninth victory between the posts.
The victory improves the 15th-ranked Greyhounds to 9-2-0 and 6-1-0 in GLVC contests on the 2009 campaign. UIndy will be back in action on Sunday at 1:00 PM when they travel to Romeoville, Ill. for a match with GLVC foe Lewis University.
