INDIANAPOLIS - Four University of Indianapolis women's soccer players were honored by the Great Lakes Valley Conference with postseason honors this afternoon, with senior
Ashley Seehase garnering first team honors and
Amanda Reese,
Shelby Spinelli, and
Haley Miller making the all-conference second team. Spinelli was also named GLVC Freshman of the Year along with her second team selection.
Quincy's Jenna Boyko was named the conference Player of the Year, while Bellarmine defender Abby Schuhmann was selected at the GLVC's top defensive player. Northern Kentucky head coach Bob Sheehan rounded out the individual awards with his Coach of the Year honor.
Seehase, a four-year starter for the Greyhounds, currently leads the team with nine goals after her performances in UIndy's final two games against Missouri S&T and Maryville where she finished the weekend with three goals and two assists. This marks the fourth time that Seehase has been selected as an All-GLVC honoree, as she was earned second team honors in her freshman and junior campaigns and was named to the first team as a sophomore. The senior forward rounded out the regular season by being named GLVC Player of the Week.
Reese, also a four-time All-GLVC honoree, was one of two Greyhound forwards to be selected to the second team. The senior forward has tallied four goals and four assists on the season and has been a staple of the UIndy front line. Her three game-winners are second best on the squad and her 12 points rank third. Reese was named to the All-GLVC second team a season ago, took first team honors as a sophomore, and was an All-GLVC honorable mention in her freshman season.
Spinelli, selected as the Freshman of the Year, is the other UIndy forward to be named to the All-GLVC second team. The freshman has made an immediate impact in her first season as a Greyhound leading the team with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Spinelli's goal off a penalty kick at Wisconsin-Parkside proved to be the lone tally in UIndy's 1-0 victory over the Rangers, the first time the Greyhounds had topped Parkside since 1999 and the first loss for the Rangers on their home pitch since 2006.
Miller was honored with a second team selection for her work on the Greyhound defensive line. The freshman defender has appeared in 17 games this season and made 14 starts. She is a vital component of the UIndy defense that has shutout opponents on eight different occasions, and permitted only 15 goals in 18 contests.
The Greyhounds will continue their season this Sunday when they host Wisconsin-Parkside in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament. The match is scheduled to kick at Noon.
