Overtime goal dooms Greyhounds at Lewis

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Indianapolis held Lewis scoreless for over 91 minutes, but it was not enough as the host Flyers scored in overtime to defeat the Greyhounds 1-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Lewis (7-3-1, 6-3-0 GLVC) controlled the opening half of play, outshooting UIndy 5-2, but neither team managed to get a shot on net as the score stayed at 0-0 through 45 minutes.

The second half would be controlled by the Greyhounds, who fired 11 shots to the Flyers three. Indianapolis mounted an attack late in the contest, earning three corner kicks and taking a pair of shots in the final nine minutes of regulation.

However, the Lewis defense only allow two of the 11 shots to reach goalkeeper Sebastain Kieruzal, who kept both attempts from finding the back of the net.

UIndy netminder Hunter Extine, who was making his first career start in a Greyhound uniform, made three second period saves to keep the game scoreless after 90 minutes.

The Flyers would get game winner in the game's 92nd minute after Robert McGowan collected a rebound from a previous Kipp Cartwright shot and put it past Extine.

Freshmen forwards Bobby Adkins and Roger Lee were responsible for both shots of goal for the Hounds and combined for six attempts.  Extine ended the afternoon with four saves and lowered his goals against average to 1.16 in his third appearance this season.

The loss drops Indianapolis to 4-5-2 on the year and 2-5-1 in GLVC contests.  The Greyhounds will return to Key Stadium for their next match when they host GLVC opponent Illinois-Springfield.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
