DID YOU KNOW?:  At this writing, four Greyhound squads are ranked in the top 15 in the country.  Women's golf earned its highest ranking ever by moving into 5th last week.  Volleyball is 12th in the country while men's golf sits 13th.  Women's soccer is 15th in all of Division II as of Sep. 29.

Women's Soccer:  Sophomore goalkeeper Shae Morris notched her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season, helping #15 UIndy to a pair of 1-0 road wins last week. For her efforts, Morris was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday.   The Hounds have now made it three straight 1-0 wins.  The Greyhounds defeated Wisconsin-Parkside on a Shelby Spinelli penalty kick Friday before Ashley Seehase scored the lone goal Sunday to improve her team's record to 10-2-0.  Morris, with six matches left in the regular season and the GLVC and NCAA tournaments in sight, is chasing the UIndy single-season record for shutouts in a season (10), held by Abby Tracy (2006, 2008).   The Hounds will host four of their final six regular season matches at home, beginning with Illinois-Springfield Friday and Quincy Sunday.

Men's Soccer:  The Greyhounds dropped two road matches last week, falling 6-2 at Wisconsin-Parkside Friday and 1-0 in overtime at Lewis.  Senior Cory Barber and freshman Max Marsh tallied goals at UWP.  Freshman goalkeeper Hunter Extine made his first career start at Lewis, holding the Flyers scoreless through the first 90 minutes until LU was able to redirect a rebound for the lone goal early in overtime.  The loss drops Indianapolis to 4-5-2 on the year and 2-5-1 in GLVC contests.  The Greyhounds will return to Key Stadium for their next match when they host GLVC opponent Illinois-Springfield.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Volleyball:  The 12th-ranked volleyball team stretched its winning streak to five with a sweep wins over Illinois-Springfield and Quincy last week at the Ruth Lilly Center.  UIndy rolled past UIS Friday, thanks in part to junior Cheneta Morrison, who filled up the box score with 28 assists, 11 digs and eight kills.  The versatile setter also added two block assists and hit a match-high .800. Against Quincy, all 15 Greyhounds got in the box score, including Lyndsay Callahan, who hit .421 with nine kills, 12 digs and an ace.  UIndy (19-1, 5-1) begins a three-match road swing this week, beginning with a contest at Urbana University Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Football:  Host Northwood staved off a final comeback effort by the UIndy football team, clinging on for a 17-12 victory in rainy, muddy conditions at Hantz Stadium Saturday afternoon.  The Hounds had a 12-10 lead at halftime, but Michael Gillmore's second touchdown catch of the game proved to be the difference early in the third quarter.  Sophomore QB Rob Doyle finished the day 19-of-27 for 278 yards and two scores with no picks.  Sophomore WR Joe Leach grabbed four balls for 103 yards and a TD while senior WR Stephen Geller added four more for 58 yards and a score.  The Greyhound defense was led by senior J.T. Owens, who amassed a team-high 11 total tackles and forced and recovered a fumble.  Senior Jacob Atkinson chipped-in a career-best 10 total tackles, eight solo, in the loss.  UIndy will head to Big Rapids, Mich. Saturday to battle Ferris State.  Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.

Women's Golf: The Hounds women's golf team, who moved up to fifth in the latest Golf World Division II rankings, will compete in town for the first and only time this academic year when they tee it up at the Butler Fall Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Course Monday and Tuesday.  In their last outing, UIndy picked up its second straight team title last week with a convincing 16-stroke win at the Missouri-St. Louis Midwest Shootout.  The Greyhounds’ collectively carded a 300 in the second round, tying the program mark for lowest 18-hole team score.  Senior Lyndsay McBride again led the Hounds with a fourth-place showing, carding scores of 75 and 74 to land at five over par and giving her three wins and five top-five finishes in UIndy’s five fall tournaments.

Men's Golf: The Hounds compete at the Butler Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Eagle Creek.  Last Tuesday, the 13th-ranked Greyhounds carded a 304 on day two to take third place at the Ken Partridge UIndy Invitational/NCAA D-II Preview at Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Individually, Seth Fair finished tied for third, carding rounds of 76 and 74.  The Invite featured 18 of the top Division II programs playing at the home site of the 2010 NCAA D-II Championships in May.

Men's & Women's Cross Country:  The Greyhound cross country teams made the annual trek to the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational Saturday, a popular event that draws teams from all around the midwest.  The UIndy women were 15th in a field of 34 while the men took 16th among the 39 teams in the men's race.  Freshman Katherine Wilhelm highlighted the women's performance at the meet, finishing 17th among the 378 women competing.  Wilhelm posted a 18:33 time in the six-kilometer race.  On the men's side, the Hounds were led by Mark Martinez and Josh Gornall, who both crossed in 26:37 (64th/65th).  UIndy will compete in the Lucian Rosa Invite next Saturday, hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.

Men's Tennis:  The UIndy men's tennis team dropped a pair of non-Division II matches this weekend, falling 6-3 at Taylor Saturday and 7-0 at IUPUI on Sunday. Sophomores Matt Smith and Jeff Price won both of their doubles matches at the top position.  UIndy (0-2 overall) will play a pair of regional road matches this week, traveling to Ohio Dominican Saturday and Tiffin Sunday.

Swimming and Diving:  The Greyhounds open their 2009-10 season at the Indiana Intercollegiates meet, a Saturday event at Purdue University.  Head Coach Gary Kinkead, now in his 16th season at the helm, leads one of the most successful Division II programs in the country as both of his squads have finished in the top 2- nationally each year for the past decade.  The UIndy women took 11th and the men 15th at the 2009 NCAA D-II meet.
