Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The UIndy women's soccer team picked up its 11th victory of the season, matching its total from a year ago, with a 1-0 win over visiting Illinois-Springfield on a rain-soaked field Friday evening at Key Stadium.  The Hounds and Drury remain tied for first in the league with identical 8-1 (11-2 overall) records.

Freshman Shelby Spinelli connected on the lone goal of the match in the 31st minute after collecting a rebound on an earlier shot by Kristen Conway and putting it past the Prairie Star goalkeeper.  It was the seventh goal of the year for Spinelli and her second game-winner.  The assist was Conway's second.

The Greyhounds controlled the action for much of the contest, outshooting UIS 31-4, with 14 of them being on target.  The UIndy defense kept the visiting Prairie Stars out of the shot column for the entire second half and allowed just a single attempt to reach the Greyhound net.

Spinelli narrowly missed her second goal of the game in the 51st minute when her shot sailed over the hands of the UIS goalkeeper, but was stopped the crossbar and the following shot by Ashley Seehase was just high.

Indianapolis netminders Shae Morris and Danielle Bennett combined for the shutout with Morris collecting the only save between the posts.

Illinois-Springfield keeper Kelli Kubal kept her squad in the game by turning away 13 Greyhound attempts, but the single ball that got by her would prove to be the difference.

The Greyhounds improve to 11-2-0 with the victory and 8-1-0 in GLVC matches, while the Prairie Stars dropped to 2-10-0 and 0-10-0 in conference play.  UIndy will return to action on Sunday afternoon for a key GLVC matchup when they welcome Quincy to Key Stadium at Noon.
