Did you know?: UIndy has already had four national swimmers of the week.  Guy Kogel (Oct. 13 and Oct. 27), Maura Donohue (Oct. 13) and Erica Smith (Oct. 27).  The award is given to the top swimmer in NCAA Division II that week.

Football:  Ashland used an opening-kickoff return for a touchdown as a springboard to a 19-3 win Saturday.  The Eagles registered eight sacks in the win.  UIndy sophomore Ryan Forney had another long punt return, a 49-yarder in the game's final seconds.  It marked the third time this season that he has broken one for 45 yards or more.  He is second in the GLIAC in punt return average and is ninth in all of NCAA Division II in that category.  The Greyhounds make the long trek to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to battle the Northern Michigan Wildcats in the season finale Saturday.

Volleyball: UIndy (30-1) etched its 16th-straight win, beating Drury and Rockhurst in road tilts last week.  Junior setter Cheneta Morrison was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Player of the Week for her efforts. She nearly turned a triple-double in the win Friday (36 asst, 10 kills, 8 digs) and then posted a league-best 59-assist performance (for four sets) Saturday. The Hounds have a pair of matches remaining in the regular season, playing at Saint Joseph's Tuesday before Saturday's finale vs. Maryville.  UIndy leads all of Division II with wins with 30 and has won 16 straight matches.

Women's Soccer: Senior Ashley Seehase scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over visiting Wisconsin-Parkside in the Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinals Sunday.  The win means Indianapolis will travel to top-seed Northern Kentucky for a showdown with the Norse Friday.  Earlier in the week, Seehase was one an All-GLVC First Team honoree with three of her teammates garnering second team accolades (Amanda Reese, Shelby Spinelli, Haley Miller).  Spinelli also grabbed the league's Freshman of the Year honor. UIndy (15-4-0) was a 2-1 winner over NKU earlier this season (Sep. 20).

Cross Country: The NCAA Regional race now looms for the Hounds, set for Nov. 7.  In their last outing Oct. 24, the Greyhound men's cross country squad finished in fourth place overall, while the women's team took sixth at the 2009 Great Lakes Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Bellarmine.  Stephanie Cave's ninth place overall finish highlighted the UIndy women's day. The freshman covered the 6K course in 23:06.99 to break into the top ten.  The top UIndy male runner was Mark Martinez, who finished the 8K race in 26:00.66 to take 13th overall. Cave, Martinez and Michael Landy were named All-GLVC for their performances.

Swimming and Diving:  The UIndy swims teams are off from competition until Nov. 13-14.  In their last appearance, the Hounds welcomed some of the nation's top talent to the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Oct. 23 and 24, hosting Ashland, Truman State and Wayne State. For the meet, four different UIndy athletes earned NCAA time standards, including one A-cut (Guy Kogel-100 fly).  Kogel also added B-times in the 100 and 200 free.  Maura Donahue had B-cuts in the 100, 200, 500 and 1000 free while Erica Smith added three "B" times of her own (100 and 200 fly, 200 IM).  Austin Biefnes made it a dozen time standards for the Greyhounds with a pair of B-cuts (200 and 400 IM).  Kogel and Donahue were each named the CollegeSwimming.com Division II Swimmers of the Week for their efforts.  The Greyhounds compete next at the IUPUI House of Champions Invite Nov. 13-14 at the IU Natatorium downtown.

Men's Basketball: UIndy's starting five all scored in double digits to down NCAA Division I Valparaiso, 88-83 in exhibition play at the Athletics-Recreation Center Sunday afternoon.  UIndy got contributions from its newcomers, but it was senior Larry Woods that led the way for Indianapolis, leading all scorers in points and rebounds.  Woods dumped-in 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as UIndy took an early lead and never looked back.  Sergey Struck had 18 points for the game and Ryan Sims added 13 points, 11 coming in a three-minute span in the opening half.  The Hounds will closeout its exhibition slate with a road tilt at Indiana State Saturday.

Women's Basketball:  The fourth-ranked Greyhound women's basketball team earned a convincing 67-56 exhibition win at NCAA Division I Valparaiso Sunday afternoon.  UIndy grabbed the lead midway through the first half and held control the rest of the way, fending-off a Crusader comeback effort in the closing minutes.  Junior Samantha Meissel led the Hounds with 18 points and seven rebounds.  UIndy will play at two more Division I schools, playing #4 Notre Dame (Tuesday) and #11 Xavier (Saturday) to round out its exhibition slate.

Wrestling:  New head coach Jason Warthan will get his first look at his Greyhound squad in action next week, but will host an intrasquad match on Sunday in the first event for the grapplers.  UIndy has 15 returners and four starters back in the mix for the Greyhounds.  Their season officially gets underway Sun. Nov. 15 at the Michigan State Open.
