INDIANAPOLIS- Thirteen days after falling to Lake Erie by a single point, the Greyhound men's basketball team got its revenge with an 83-55 victory at Nicoson Hall Saturday afternoon. Junior guard
Darius Adams (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur / Lincoln College) nearly posted a triple-double with a game-high 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists-- all without a single turnover.
The Hounds lost 54-53 on Dec. 6 in Painesville, Ohio but made sure to not succumb to the slow start that doomed them in that loss. UIndy (5-3) led 38-28 at the break and gradually stretched its lead in the second half to pull away for the easy win. This time, Indianapolis was able to limit its turnovers, giving the ball away just eight times, while connecting on nearly half of its shots (49.3 percent).
Adams and
Ryan Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind./Fort Wayne Snider / Bowling Green State) each had three triples in the second half alone to help the Hounds rack-up 45 second-half points. The UIndy backcourt produced just a single turnover for the entire game. Five players combined to record a 16-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio: Adams (6/0), Sims (3/0),
Alec Dye (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) (2/0),
Paul Corsaro (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli / Youngstown State) (1/0) and
Dijon Knight (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley / Kaskaskia C.C.) (2/1).
The balanced scoring attack featured four Hounds in double digits with
Larry Woods (Robbins, Ill./Shepard / Moraine Valley C.C.) and
DeWann Squires (Indianapolis, Ind./Arlington / Lincoln Trail College) each chipping-in 13 and Sims adding a dozen. The UIndy defense was also impressive, holding the Storm (4-9) to just 2-of-17 shooting from three-point range and amassing six blocked shots, three coming from
Devin Williams (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central / Wabash Valley).
UIndy (5-3) will host Saginaw Valley State Tuesday at Nicoson Hall. Tip time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
