Turner earns prestigious Elite 88 award

ST. PAUL, Minn.- UIndy senior Kyleigh Turner was bestowed with the NCAA's Elite 88 award at the annual banquet for the Division II Volleyball Championship Wednesday night.  The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

Turner, who also collected her Second Team All-American award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) at the banquet, holds down an adjusted 4.0 in business education at UIndy.  She was one of five championship participants with a perfect GPA, but the Muncie, Ind. native secured the honor with her tie-breaking number of credit hours.

The Greyhounds' lone senior leads Indianapolis in its first-ever Elite Eight appearance Thursday night.  The Hounds face defending national champion and event host Concordia, St. Paul tonight at 7:30 pm CST.  Click here to view the tournament's official webpage.

Eligible student-athlete for the Elite 88 award must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletics standing, and in at least his or her second year of competition in their sport at his or her current institution.  The recipient must also be an active member on the roster and a member of the designated squad size for the championship site.  This is the first year of the award, as Turner was the inaugural D-II volleyball recipient.
