INDIANAPOLIS– Senior thrower Amy Schmitz has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Female Indoor Field Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by league officials Tuesday.  Schmitz broke a school record and improved her NCAA-automatic qualifying distance in the weight throw.

Schmitz' new university record came this past weekend at the Tiger Indoor Invite at DePauw University. Her toss of 18.68 meters is an improvement upon her NCAA Qualifying mark and she ranks fourth on the performance list. She also leads the GLVC. 

The weekly honor is her second of the season after winning the honor on Jan. 27.  She was also recently named the UIndy Female Athlete of the Month for January.

UIndy will be competing next at the Hoosier Hills Invite in Bloomington, Ind. Friday.
