Relays chalk-up wins at Tiger Invite

GREENCASTLE, Ind.-  The Greyhound women's track and field team finished second and the men took fourth at the Tiger Indoor Invitational hosted by DePauw University Friday.  A school record fell and three different relays earned top honors at the meet.

The women's 4X200 relay (Shanese McGregor, Kierra Allen, Shannon Smith and Saidat Sanuth) won with a 1:45.42 time.  The 4X400 relay (McGregor, Allen, Christina Carrick and Sanuth) was also victorious, picking up the win in 4:06.16.

Amy Schmitz won the weight throw with a school-record toss of 18.68 meters.  The mark broke a standard that stood for five years and also set a new meet record.  Andrea Horban was fourth (15.72m) and Courtney Kuzmicz (15.25m) sixth in the event.  The trio all finished in the top seven in the shot put as well with Horban winning the competition (13.80m), Kuzmicz fifth (12.42m) and Schmitz (11.76m) seventh.

Emily Schaf cleared 1.68 meters in the high jump to take top honors.  She also finished runner-up in teh triplejump with a 10.80-meter effort.

For the men, the UIndy distance medley squad of Cody Parks, Michael Landy, Scott Fowler and Josh Gornall won with a 10:35.61 time.  Landy also was the runner-up in the 3000-meter run.  Kyle Thompson (22.88) and Terrell Franklin (22.88) were second and third in the 200 dash.

Four Greyhounds were in the top nine in the weight throw led by Willie Little's second-place finish (18.70m).  Sam Elmore was fifth (16.77m), Craig Myers eighth (16.28m) and Nikko Peebles ninth (15.59m) in that event.  Three more Greyhounds were in the top six in the shot put with Myers taking third (14.76m), Peebles fifth (14.08m) and Dustin Gilpatrick sixth (13.96m).

The UIndy men's heptathletes traveled to Grand Valley State University for their competition. James Taylor finished fourth overall with 4,208 points. 

The Greyhounds will send athletes to two events next week with the Hoosier Hills Open Friday and the DePauw Invitational Saturday both on the schedule.
