DII Winter Festival Site
HOUSTON, Texas- The UIndy swim teams were the first Greyhounds in action at the 2009 NCAA Division II Winter Festival, finishing day one of competition with a pair of All-American performances.
Manuel Stiem took second in the men's 200-yard individual medley, while
Erica Smith took sixth in the women's 200IM.
Stiem earned his first Greyhound All-American nod with a time of 1:47.09 in the 200-yard IM. The junior took second to a time of 1:46.03, with both Stiem and the race's winner breaking the previous NCAA mark of 1:47.22 with their finishes. Smith earned her first UIndy All-American honors in the women's version of the race, touching in a time of 2:03.75.
In addition to Stiem and Smith,
Isabela Tafur took 10th place in the 50-yard freestyle, while
Alican Alacli posted a ninth place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle race with a time of 9:19.97. The women's 200-yard medley relay team of
Meghan Donahue,
Jaclyn Luscomb, Smith and Tafur took 13th place with a time of 1:46.26.
The Greyhounds stand in a three-way tie for 10th place in the women's team race, while the UIndy men are in a two-way tie for 14th place overall. The swimming and diving portion of the Division II Winter Festival continues through Saturday.
