Hounds excel in IWGA tournaments

FRANKLIN, Ind.- The UIndy women's golf team has been busy this summer competing in a pair Indiana Women's Golf Association (IWGA) events.  At the Pepsi Indiana Women's Open Monday and Tuesday, 2009 GLVC Golfer of the Year Kristi Piepenbrink led eight Greyhounds with a two-round score of +9, good for a share of 11th, while defending individual national champion Lyndsay McBride and Allison Tyler teamed up to successfully defend their title at the 2009 Indiana Women's Team Championship June 20.

Piepenbrink, last year's Open champion, went for 77 and 76 to finish in a seven-way tie for 11th in the 112-golfer field.  She was followed by incoming seniors Sarah Prascsak and Lyndsay McBride, who finished in 23rd and 25th, respectively.

At the 2009 IWGA Team Championship held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club, McBride and teammate Tyler successfully defended their title.  The tandem combined to shoot a three-under par 69 in a best ball format to take the title for the second straight year.

All told, seven Greyhounds were sprinkled among the top eight teams.  Joining McBride and Tyler was incoming UIndy freshman Lauren Vogt, who, along with her sister Andrea, shot even par for the event to share fifth place.  Incoming sophomore Darin Pinnick and incoming freshman Megan Kiley also tied for fifth as they duplicated the Vogt sisters' score, while 2006 winners Kristi Piepenbrink and Sarah Prascsak finished at one-over, good for sole possession of eighth.  Click here for complete results.

Head Coach Ken Piepenbrink guided the Greyhounds to their highest ever finish at the NCAA Championships last May.  McBride topped the field to take the individual national championship while the younger Piepenbrink notched a top-five showing, helping the Hounds to a share of third place.  Though UIndy loses Kristi Piepenbrink to graduation, Vogt and Kiley will join the team this fall with hopes of returning to the NCAA finals next spring.
