NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2009 Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Athletes of the Year Monday and three Greyhounds adorn the list.  Courtney Kuzmicz (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort), Emily Schaf (Boggstown, Ind./Triton Central) and Amy Schmitz (Normal, Ill./Central Catholic) all garnered recognition from the organization for their dedication in the classroom in addition to their exploits on the competition field.

The three athletes helped the Greyhounds to a 15th-place finish at the DII Championships in May.  Kuzmicz qualified in the discus, placing 13th (40.11 m).  Schmitz finished fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.45 meters to grab her second All-America honor of the season (Indoor weight throw).  Schaf was UIndy's fifth All-American at the meet when she took seventh place in the women's high jump, clearing 1.71 meters and giving her the fourth All-America honor in her decorated career.  She also earned Academic All-America plaudits, becoming the 42nd Greyhound ever to achieve that status.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
