Morrison, Reese earn Player of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS- A pair of UIndy athletes garnered Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in their respective sports Monday.  Junior Cheneta Morrison led the Greyhound volleyball team to a spotless 4-0 record at the Ferris State Invitational last weekend, while senior Amanda Reese helped the UIndy women's soccer team to a 2-0 start to its 2009 season.

As the year's first Baden/GLVC Volleyball Player of the Week, Cheneta Morrison averaged 9.4 assists, 1.9 digs and 1.5 kills in 15 sets played at the 10-team Ferris State Invitational.  After being named to the All-GLVC Second Team as a right-side hitter last season, the Greyhounds' new setter helped the team compile a .251 hitting percentage in its four wins.

Friday, she had 29 assists and six digs in a four-set victory over 2008 Sweet Sixteen team Saginaw Valley State before amassing 34 helpers and two aces in a sweep of the host Bulldogs.

A pair of double-doubles followed Saturday with 13 kills and 31 assists versus Minnesota, Crookston and 47 assists and 10 digs against '08 NCAA Tournament participant Northwood.

UIndy earned two unique distinctions in its time in Big Rapids, Mich., as the Greyhounds were the lone undefeated squad at the 10-team event, while also being the only school with three representatives on the 12-player FSU Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Morrison and the Greyhounds travel to Marion, Ind. to face Indiana Wesleyan Tuesday, Sep. 1 before heading south to Florence, Ala. for the North Alabama Classic this weekend.

Indianapolis women's soccer player Amanda Reese was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week after her efforts on the pitch this weekend in victories over Saginaw Valley State and Northern Michigan.

The senior forward scored the lone goal in the Hounds 1-0 win over Saginaw Valley on Saturday and also netted the game-winning tally in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Northern Michigan.  Reese also added an assist on the latter match's first goal in the 17th minute.

Reese currently leads UIndy with a pair of goals and five points this season and leads active Greyhounds with her 29th goal, scored in the contest against Northern Michigan.

Indianapolis stands 2-0-0 on the season and will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Tiffin.
