Greyhounds silence Screaming Eagles 2-1

Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The #12 UIndy women's soccer team improved to 5-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in conference play after downing GLVC foe Southern Indiana on Friday night at Strassweg Field.  Senior Ashley Seehase scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute and added an assist earlier in the contest on a 1st minute goal by freshman Shelby Spinelli.

The Greyhounds needed just 37 seconds to get their first goal of the game when Spinelli scored from 10 yards out after a cross from the foot of Seehase.  The goal was Spinelli's third of the season and her team-high 10th point.

The Screaming Eagles (2-3-0, 1-1-0 GLVC) outshot Indianapolis 8-2 in the first stanza, but only managed to get one shot on sophomore goalkeeper Shae Morris.  The Greyhound defense also held strong on set pieces as the host Screaming Eagles failed to convert on any of their five first half corner kicks.

Southern Indiana continued their barrage on the UIndy goal in the second half, firing 16 of their 24 shots in the game's final period.  Katie Teagarden found the back of the net for USI on her only shot of the evening and evened the score at 1-1 in the 84th minute.

The Hounds answered immediately and recaptured their lead just 11 seconds later when Seehase beat the keeper after a breakaway that started at midfield for her third goal of the year.  The goal would prove to be the game-winner, Seehase's second of the season.

Morris preserved the win between the posts for Indianapolis by stopping eight second half shots, four of them in the contest's final nine minutes.  Her goals against average now stands at 0.40 on the 2009 campaign after allowing just her second goal in five games.  The nine saves that Morris collected on the evening now pushes her season total to 20.

They Greyhounds will look to keep their perfect record alive as they travel to Owensboro, Ky. to take on conference opponent Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM.  The Panthers stand at 1-2-1 and 0-2-0 in GLVC action with a recent 4-0 loss to Northern Kentucky.
