On tap: The Greyhounds head home for a pair of games as the season hits the stretch run. UIndy has six games remaining in the regular season and this week’s games will be the final non-divisional games. Indianapolis finishes with four intra-division games that will help determine Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament seeding.
About RU: The Hawks are 14-7 and sit in second place in the GLVC West with a 9-3 league mark. RU has won its last three games, including a big 74-70 victory over then-#10 Quincy on Jan. 23. Aaron Hill leads the squad with 20.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Series Record with the Hawks: Rockhurst owns the advantage in the all-time series, taking four of the five meetings. The only UIndy win came on Jan. 24, 2008, a 63-52 decision in Nicoson Hall. In a scheduling quirk, this will be the third straight season that RU will be making the trip to Indy.
About DU: The No. 14 Panthers sit a game-and-a-half atop the GLVC West with a 10-1 conference mark and a 17-3 overall ledger. DU is on a seven-game winning streak heading into this week’s action with its last loss coming on Jan. 7 against fellow national-power Kentucky Wesleyan (79-67). The Panthers are led by Alex Hall’s 19.3 points per game average, fourth-highest in the conference.
Series Record with the Panthers: DU leads the all-time series 3-1 with the sole Greyhound win coming back on Jan. 13, 2007, a 77-66 win in Springfield, Mo.
UIndy Head Coach Stan Gouard: Stan Gouard is in his second season and carries a 20-28 record as the Greyhound front man. He previously spent three years as an assistant coach at Indiana State following his three-year stint as an assistant at UIndy. While at Indianapolis, Gouard was part of the staff that helped the Hounds to a 47-31 record, advancing to the NCAA tournament all three seasons.
Last Time Out: The Greyhounds shot better than 50 percent from the floor in taking a 75-66 win at Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday. Junior guard Darius Adams dumped-in 31 points in the winning effort. UIndy led by as many as 15 in the first half but had to fend off the home team in the second period after UWP tied it with 10 minutes left.
Looking Ahead: UIndy plays all four of its divisional rivals to end the regular season. The Greyhounds play at Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana before returning home for a home finale with Bellarmine on Monday, Feb. 15. That game will be the final in a three-game, five-day stretch. UIndy will end the regular season at Northern Kentucky Feb. 2 before the GLVC tournament the followwing Saturday.
Packin’ the Perimeter : Indianapolis continues to lead the GLVC in three-point defensive percentage, allowing opponents just a .296 clip from deep this season. The Hounds have squandered just 99 triples this year, easily the lowest total in the conference.
30-somethings: Darius Adams’ 31-point showing on Saturday marked the third different 30-point outburst by a Greyhound this season. DeWann Squires torched Cincinnati Christian for 45 points on Dec. 15 and Adams poured-in 37 at Maryville on Jan. 7. Adams registered his tenth 20-point game as well on Saturday and has scored in double digits in all but two games this season.
Coaches v. Cancer: Coach Gouard and his staff will be wearing sneakers on the sidelines in Thursday's home game against Rockhurst in recognition of the "Coaches vs. Cancer" effort. The event will help raise awareness for cancer and proceeds for scheduled events will be donated to the American Cancer Society. More on this can be found
here.
Hall of Fame Saturday: Five individuals and two teams will be honored at halftime of Saturday's game. The annual Hall of Fame banquet will follow on campus to enshrine these deserving former Greyhounds. For more on the inductees,
