INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound tennis teams opened their spring schedule with wins over Illinois-Springfield at the UIndy Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. The UIndy men were 6-3 winners while the women picked-up a 7-2 victory over the Prairie Stars.

Werner Henning and
Jeff Price were all 2-0 on the day, winning their doubles matches, then taking straight-set wins in singles play. Henning won easily at No. 5, taking a 6-0, 6-3 victory. David Schock was the other singles winner, making his first appearance as a Greyhound with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The women also started with wins in two of three doubles matches.
Alena Perez-Majul teamed with
Maggie Ashby for an 8-3 win at top doubles but had to come-from-behind to post a win in singles play. After dropping the first set 6-7 (2), Perez-Majul rebounded to take the next two sets rather handily, 6-2 and 6-1.
Lee Matthews outlasted her opponent at No. 2 (6-2, 7-6) while
Meghan Teunis (6-1, 6-3) and
Kelsey Hartman (6-2, 6-1) won at No. 3 and 5, respectively.
The UIndy men (3-2) take on Wayne State on Feb. 19 and the women are next in action against Franklin on Feb. 27 at the UIndy Tennis Center.
