ROLLA, Mo.- UIndy juniors
Kaleb Cunningham and
Donovan Drake were named to the 2010 Daktronics, Inc. Baseball All-Midwest Region Second Team Thursday. The region's sports information directors selected a 15-man first team and a 21-man second team, with the first teamers moving on to the national ballot for All-American consideration.
Shortstop
Kaleb Cunningham is hitting a team-high .372 at the plate while also leading the club in runs, doubles, RBIs and stolen bases. The UIndy leadoff man was the only two-time GLVC Player of the Week this season. He carries a team-season-high 15-game hitting streak into NCAA tournament play.
Starting pitcher
Donovan Drake has put together a solid first season at UIndy. The Danville Area Community College transfer compiled a solid 3.76 ERA heading into the NCAA Tournament, including a 2.81 ERA in seven GLVC starts. Drake leads the staff in complete games (5), shutouts (2) and strikeouts (73), with the latter good for fourth in the league.
The duo leads the sixth-seeded Greyhound into an opening-round match-up with Southern Indiana Thursday night. The Screaming Eagles, ranked 12th in the nation, are the region's top-seeded and host team. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT.
