On Tap:  The UIndy baseball grabbed the sixth and final seed at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional May 13-16.  The Greyhounds earned an first-round match-up with the top-seeded and host Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT.

NCAA Tournament Picture:
Forty-eight teams earned the right to play for the 2010 D-II national championship, including 19 automatic qualifiers and 29 at-large teams.  Six regions -- Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, Southeast and South Central -- are six-team tournaments, while the South sports eight schools and the West hosts four.

The Midwest Regional field includes three teams each from the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Top-seeded Southern Indiana, the GLVC champs, and fourth-seeded and GLIAC-champions Wayne State earned the automatic bids, while Grand Valley State (two seed), Northern Kentucky (3), Ashland (5) and UIndy (6) are the at-large qualifiers.

Hounds vs. The Field:  UIndy compiled a 2-9 record against the entire 48-team NCAA field this season, including a 2-3 mark versus Midwest Region teams.  UIndy split two-game series with both Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana in the regular season before losing to USI in the GLVC Tournament last week.  The Hounds have yet to face a GLIAC team in 2010.

The Greyhounds opened GLVC play this year with a pair of games at USI, taking the first contest 12-10 on Mar. 12 before getting edged 8-7 the next day.

UIndy at the NCAA Tourney:  UIndy's 2010 NCAA appearance marks the seventh since Coach Vaught's arrival in 1995.  The Hounds have compiled an even 10-10 mark at the annual event during Vaught's tenure, including taking their only regional title in 2000.

The Hounds defeated USI twice at last year's Midwest Regional, held at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.  UIndy advanced to the 2009 regional final game without a loss, but dropped a pair of one-run games to eventual champ Grand Valley State.

Great Scott:
Despite an offensive lull in its loss to USI, UIndy racked-up 40 runs in four games at the GLVC Tournament last week.  Led by sophomore slugger Scott Mourey, the Greyhounds hit nine homeruns at hitter-friendly GCS Ballpark, with four coming off Mourey's bat.  The 6-foot-5 designated hitter had a career day in the Hounds' 19-10 win over Rockhurst by going 5-for-5 at the plate, including three dingers.  It marked the only three-homer game by a Greyhound since 1998 - the last year game-by-game data is unavailable.

The 700 Club:  Long-time UIndy head coach Gary Vaught earned his 700th career win earlier this year with a 13-5 win vs. Saint Joseph's Apr. 10.  In his 16th season as head man at Indianapolis and 21st overall as a collegiate head coach, Vaught entered the season as the 15th winningest active coach in all of Division II.  Heading into the NCAA Tournament, he sports a 544-365-2 (.598) record at UIndy, part of a 711-498-2 (.588) mark overall.

All-GLVC:  Five Greyhounds were voted to the All-GLVC Team by the league's coaches, including first-team honoree Donovan Drake. The starting pitcher was joined by second teamer Travis Capps and third-team honorees Kaleb Cunningham, Cory Rupert and Chris Ulrey.

Power Switch:  Senior Adam Akin made sure the Greyhounds came away with two wins at Greyhound Park Apr. 6 by notching four hits and four RBIs in wins of 16-1 and 12-11 against in-region Urbana.  Three of his knocks went for extra bases, including an extra-inning walk-off double that clinched the sweep for Indianapolis.  The switch-hitting second baseman, who hit a left-handed homer in the first game, also hit a game-tying solo shot from the right side in the seventh inning to force extras in game two.

Record Breaker:  Veteran reliever David Early set a new Greyhound record Apr. 6 vs. Urbana by making his 67th career appearances on the mound.  The Fairland, Ind. native broke the record of former Greyhound standout and newly-named Roncalli head coach Keith Hatfield (2004-07).  Early is also third in the UIndy annals in career saves (15).

Hitting Streaks: Nine Greyhounds take active hitting streaks into the conference tourney, paced by a team-season-high 15-game streak by shortstop Kaleb CunninghamAryn Ross (12 games) and Danny Collier (10) are the only two other Hounds to notch double-digits streaks this season.

GLVC Weekly Award Winners:
Two UIndy players garnered a total of three weekly awards from the conference this season, with Cunningham as to league's only two-time GLVC Player of the Week winner (Mar. 22 & Apr. 26).  Fellow junior Cory Rupert collected the season's first GLVC Pitcher of the Week nod way back on Feb. 16.
