Fair, Turner highlight departmental award winners

INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy athletic department announced its 2009-10 year-end award winners today, with men's golfer Seth Fair and volleyball player Kyleigh Turner winning their respective gender's Dr. Robert M. Brooker Most Valuable Athlete Award.

Each varsity sport's head coach selects a Most Valuable Player for their respective roster.  Those winners are then eligible for selection as the UIndy Male and Female Athletes of the Year, chosen by athletic department personnel.

Seth Fair, who capped his collegiate career with fourth-place finish the NCAA D-II Championship last month, earned a First Team All-America nod from the Golf Coaches Association of American.  A finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, Fair owns four of the seven lowest single-season averages in school history.  He was named the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Player of the Year by the league's coaches and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSDIA).

Kyleigh Turner, UIndy's all-time leader in digs, led the Greyhound volleyball team to its second Great Lakes Valley Conference title and first-ever Midwest Region championship last fall.  She garnered Third Team All-American recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, while also winning the GLVC Paragon Award and her sport's Elite 88 Award.  The Muncie, Ind. native was a part of 124 wins in her time at UIndy, most ever by a volleyball player over a four-year span.
