Women's golf ranked 10th, men 19th in preseason poll

NEW YORK- The University of Indianapolis golf teams received national recognition Wednesday, as both were featured in their respective national preseason polls.  The UIndy women will begin their 2010-11 campaign as the 10th-ranked team in the Golf World/NGCA Division II Coaches' Poll, while the Greyhound men debut at No. 19 in the Golf World/Nike Golf D-II Coaches' Poll.

UIndy's women's squad is coming off a ninth-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships last May.  Seventh-year head coach Ken Piepenbrink will guide a young team this season, one that features a junior, two sophomores and three freshmen.   Two of the top five players from last year return, including Darin Pinnick and Megan Kiley.

The ladies begin their fall schedule at the Ferris State Tom Kirinovic Classic in Big Rapids, Mich., Sunday, Sep. 5.  Click here to view the complete women's preseason poll.

The Indianapolis men also return just two of their top five from a year ago, with all-region performers Aaron Monson and Blair Webb remaining in the fold.   UIndy made its sixth straight team appearance at the NCAA Regional last season but failed to advance to the finals for first time in since 2007.

Head Coach Brent Nicoson and his Greyhounds kick-off the 2010-11 slate at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., Sep. 6.  Click here for the complete men's preseason poll.
