Men’s golf places eighth at Kiawah Island

KIAWAH  ISLAND, S.C.-  The 19th-ranked UIndy men's golf team recorded an eighth-place showing at the seventh annual Kiawah Island Invitational  Monday and Tuesday.  Twelve of the 21 teams in the field received votes in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Poll.

The Greyhounds were led by junior Aaron Monson, who tied for ninth at +1.  Monson highlighted his performance with a one-under 70 in the first round.

Freshman Jacob Yocum had a solid first college tourney by sharing 13th place at +3.  Florida Southern transfer Robert Gleixner shot four over with scores of 73 and 75, good for 23rd.  Senior Blair Webb tied for 74th while freshman Max Bowling tied 90th.

Barton College, D-II's 20th-ranked squad, used a tournament-low team score of 289 Tuesday to take the team title at +6.  Barton's Daniel Claytor (73-69) defeated Luiz Jacintho (70-71) of Pfeiffer University on the fourth playoff hole to capture the individual crown.

The two-day event was held at the 6,875-yard, par-72 Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.  This marks the second straight season the Hounds' season opener came at the annual tournament.

UIndy's next action comes at the Great Lakes Fall Regional Sep. 20-21 in South Haven, Mich.
