INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy women's soccer team picked up its fifth-straight victory, its sixth straight in conference play, with a 2-1 defeat of Bellarmine at Key Stadium Friday evening.
UIndy (8-3-0, 6-2-0 GLVC) jumped up 1-0 in just the third minute, with
Shelby Spinelli tallying her second goal of the year. Spinelli got a pass into the box from the right side from
Nicole Duncan, and finished the ball into the net at close-range for the Greyhound goal.
Duncan put the Greyhounds up 2-0 less than five minutes later, taking a short pass from Spinelli on the far side. Duncan shot the ball across the net into the near corner for her team-leading seventh score of the season.
Bellarmine (8-2-1, 7-2-0 GLVC) cut the UIndy lead in half in the 20th minute, on a header in the box off of a corner kick. The Knights nearly tied the match a few minutes later, with a free kick just outside the box bouncing off the UIndy crossbar.
Another crossbar shot nearly put the Greyhounds up 3-1, off the foot of
Taylor Kelly about seven minutes into the second half.
The host Greyhounds out-shot Bellarmine 12-10 in the contest, while each team was awarded five corner kick chances.
Shae Morris earned the victory in the UIndy net, making two saves on the night in 90 minutes of work.
UIndy hosts No. 14 Northern Kentucky in a GLVC matchup Sunday. First kick is slated for noon from Key Stadium.
