This Week: UIndy heads to Hillsdale, Mich., for the second-straight year for the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional. This is the fifth consecutive tourney appearance for the Greyhounds and the sixth in school history, all under the direction of head coach
Jody Rogers.
UIndy, the three seed, opens the tournament against six-seed Southern Indiana and are on the same side of the bracket as second-seeded Ferris State and seventh-seed Saginaw Valley State.
Against the Field: UIndy is 7-5 this season against the rest of the field, including 1-1 against Southern Indiana with each team winning, 3-1, on its home floor after losing the first set.
Record against the remaing teams: #1 Hillsdale (0-2), #2 Ferris State (0-0); #4 Northern Kentucky (2-1); #5 Lewis (2-1); #7 Saginaw Valley (2-0); #8 Missouri S&T (0-0).
Tournament History: UIndy is 7-5 in its previous five appearances with a regional championship in 2009 and regional final appearance in 2010.
GLVC Champions: The top-seeded Greyhounds came from behind to defeat second-seeded Lewis, 3-2, in the championship match of the GLVC Tournament at Ruth Lilly Center on Sunday.
Courtney Anglemyer had a career-high 27 kills and hit .511 in the championship match, while
Meghan Binkerd had 58 assists and 28 dgis.
This was the third conference championship in school history (2003, 2009) and the first won on UIndy's home floor.
All-Region: Outside hitters
Kristina Hefferan and
Kristina Kerrigan were named Daktronics All-Midwest Region in voting by region sports information directors. Hefferan earned her first all-region honor by being picked for the first team and Kerrigan was second team for the second season in a row.
All-GLVC: Hefferan and Kerrigan were named to the first team, while Anglemyer and Binkerd are on the third team. This is the fifth year in a row that UIndy has had multiple first team honorees and had four total all-conference selections. This is the third year in a row that Kerrigan has been honored, including the second-straight first team nod. Anglemyer has earned a second-straight third team selection, while Binkerd and Hefferan are first-time selections.
Binkerd was also named GLVC Freshman of the Year to join Kerrigan (2009) and UIndy all-time kills leader Shaun McAllister (2001) as winners of the prestigious award.
Nationally Ranked: For the third time in program history and second season in a row UIndy debuted in the preseason poll. The Hounds fell out of the poll on 9/12 to end their streak at 28 consecutive weeks in the AVCA Top 25. They are back in the poll for the eighth week in a row at 20th and 36 of the last 37 weeks.
Lucky 13: Based on winning three matches at the GLVC Tournament, UIndy reached 20 wins for the 13th consecutive season.
