INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy women's golf head coach Brent Nicoson is pleased to announce the signing of local products Zoey Freese and Molly Ward to his 2012-13 aquad. Both future Greyhounds hail from the Indianapolis area, with Freese a Southport High School product and Ward a Cathedral High School student.
"Not only am I very excited that Molly and Zoey will be joining our team,” says Nicoson, “but our current team members are excited as well. We are getting two great players from two great families and I couldn't be happier with them choosing UIndy.
"I'm lucky to have a great group returning next year, and the addition of Molly and Zoey will definitely make us a deeper, stronger team.”
Both Freese and Ward are members of the National Honor Society; both sport strong junior golf resumes and both have IHSAA regional medals to their credits, as Freese carded a 77 to take the 2011 Roncalli Regional, while Ward used a 75 to take the 2009 Lafayette Jefferson Regional.
Freese, who was also the Conference Indiana medalist this past season, is a three-time team M.V.P. and two-time mental attitude award winner at Southport. She won four Indianapolis Jr. Golf Foundation tournaments this year on the way to taking the 2011 IJGF girls' 16-18 tour championship.
Like Freese, Ward is no stranger to junior golf success. In addition to winning numerous individual titles, the Fishers, Ind., native most notable qualified for the 2011 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, held at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club last July. She is also the only golfer in Cathedral history to qualify for four IHSAA Girl's Golf State Championships.
Meanwhile, the current Greyhounds are gearing up for their championship season this spring. UIndy is ranked 22nd in the Golfstat.com Division II standings after taking a pair of region-heavy team titles in the fall.
