LEXINGTON, Ky. --
The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2011 NCAA Division II All-Region Teams today and UIndy had three players honored in the Midwest Region, including the AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year.

Outside hitters Kristina Hefferan and Kristina Kerrigan were each named all-region, while setter Meghan Binkerd was tabbed as the top freshman in the region and honorable mention all-region.

Hefferan was a First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference pick and Daktronics First Team All-Region after ranking 25th nationally with 4.00 kills per set. She has a .281 attack percentage and 2.46 digs per set after being named to the NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Region Team. This is the first AVCA All-Region honor for Hefferan. She had 12 kills/digs double-doubles, including each of the last five matches of the season. Hefferan's 427 kills this season ranks eighth in a single season at UIndy and she finishes her career sixth with 1,235 career kills.

Kerrigan was a First Team All-GLVC pick, Daktronics Second Team All-Region and NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Region Team selection for the Greyhounds. This is her first time on the main all-region team after being named honorable mention last season. Kerrigan is ranked 63rd nationally with 3.65 kills per set, hitting .266, and 2.45 digs per set as she led the team with 13 kills/digs double-doubles. Kerrigan, a junior, tallied 424 kills this season, which is ninth in a single season, and she is fifth in career kills with 1,256.

Binkerd, the GLVC Freshman of the Year, is ranked 22nd nationally with 11.09 assists per set that has helped UIndy rank 20th nationally with a .252 team attack percentage. A Third Team All-GLVC and NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Region selection, Binkerd's 1,297 assists this season is eighth in a single season and 10th in a career at UIndy. The first AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year in school history also averaged 2.30 digs per set for the Greyhounds with nine assists/digs double-doubles, including 58 assists and 28 digs in the GLVC Tournament championship match.

This is the fourth season in a row that the GLVC champion Greyhounds (24-8) have had at least three players honored by the AVCA.
