BURNSVILLE, Minn.- The Daktronics, Inc. Division II Football All-Super Region #3 teams were released Thursday, with Greyhounds
Mike Dum,
Ryan Forney and
Chris Mills making the second-team list.
Candidates were voted on by the region's College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members. Super Region #3 is made up of football-playing institutions in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
Senior
Mike Dum garnered Second Team All-Region accolades at linebacker. The Bishop Chatard grad tied for sixth in the GLIAC with 96 tackles to finish with a career total of 342, good for 10th all-time at UIndy. Though this marks his first all-region nod, Dum is one of only five Greyhounds to receive the maximum of four all-conference awards.
Wide receiver
Ryan Forney amassed 80 receptions and 1,131 receiving yards in 2011, both good for second in UIndy's single-season annals. The Crown Point, Ind., native led the conference in punt return average (13.2 yds per) and receptions per game (7.2) on the way to breaking the program mark for all-purpose yards in a season (1,713).
Both Dum and Forney were also named Academic All-District by CoSIDA.
Sophomore quarterback
Chris Mills paced the league in passing yards with 2,980, while setting new single-season school records for TD passes (29), completions (243) and completion percentage (63.8). He finished the season with just five interceptions, and at one point came just seven attempts shy of breaking the D-II record for most consecutive passes thrown without a pick.
UIndy was one of only eight Super Region #3 schools with at least three honorees. Colorado St.-Pueblo, who finished ranked No. 1 in the final regular-season AFCA poll, led the way with five all-region players – three which made the first-team cut.
Meanwhile, Hillsdale's star running back Joe Glendening was dubbed the region's Offensive Player of the Year, with CSU-Pueblo's linebacker Lee Meisner named his defensive counterpart.
All 25 first-team honorees are now eligible for All-America consideration. The announcement of the Daktronics, Inc. Division II Football All-America team is expected Dec. 13, preceding the NCAA Division II Football Championship on Dec. 17.
The CoSIDA All-America program is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition, with the online nomination and voting process powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
