CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America Release
TOWSON, Md.- A pair of Greyhound soccer players earned Capital One Academic All-American status for this year, with
Libby Anderl (2nd team) and
Ryan Barnett (3rd team) making the cut.
Anderl boasts a 4.00 GPA as an exercise science major. On the field, she helped the Greyhound defense to six shutouts on the year, and also scored one goal for UIndy. Anderl is one of three Academic All-America Second Team members to tally a perfect 4.00 average.
Barnett also carries a 4.00 GPA as an exercise science major. A second-team Daktronics All-Midwest Region selection, Barnett scored three goals and added two assist on the season. He helped the UIndy defense to seven shutouts on the year, and was also named the team's MVP for the 2011 season. Barnett is the lone member of the Academic All-America Third Team to post a perfect 4.00 GPA.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
