Towson, Md.- UIndy football student-athletes
Mike Dum,
Ryan Forney and
Andrew Mansaray were all named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Football Team Wednesday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). They join soccer players Libby Anderl and Ryan Barnett on the school's 2011-12 list of AAA honorees.
The 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Football Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Forney and Mansaray earned first-team laurels, while Dum garnered second-team recognition.
Already with undergraduate degrees, Forney and Mansaray are both working towards a Master of Business Administration, with Forney carrying a 3.50 GPA and Mansaray a 3.87.
One of the top receivers in the nation this year, Forney amassed 80 receptions and 1,131 receiving yards in 2011, both good for second in UIndy's single-season annals. The Crown Point, Ind., native led the GLIAC in receptions per game (7.3) and punt return average (13.2 yds per) on the way to breaking the program mark for all-purpose yards in a season (1,713).
Meanwhile, Mansaray anchored the Greyhound offensive line at left tackle, supporting an attack that led the conference in passing offense (284.5 ypg) and ranked fourth in sacks allowed (1.2 spg). A graduate of Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., Mansaray received Honorable Mention on this year's All-GLIAC Team.
Senior
Mike Dum carries a 3.73 cumulative grade point average in Finance while simultaneously sporting a 4.0 in his MBA classes. An All-GLIAC First Team honoree this season, the Bishop Chatard product is only the fifth-ever Greyhound to receive four all-conference awards. His 342 career tackles are good for 10th on the school's all-time list.
This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program, as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) to double the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College editions, with the latter combining NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-II Academic All-America® teams program.
