Final Results
ROLLA, Mo.- Both the men's and women's UIndy track and field teams have captured 2011 GLVC Outdoor Track & Field championships, repeating their sweep of the event a year ago.
UIndy's men won the event with 221.5 total team points. Bellarmine took second with 134 points, while host Missouri S&T came in third with 117 points. The Greyhound women amassed 196.33 points, with Bellarmine taking second with 150.5 points. Lewis came in third with 148.67 total points.
Angelique McNeal and
Robert Gardner were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively, repeating their honors from the indoor season. Greyhound head coach
Scott Fangman took both the men's and women's Coach of the Year honors as well.
The men's 4x100-meter relay squad of
Jermel Kindred,
Jerel Flournoy,
Carl Smith and Gardner put up an NCAA provisional mark in their race, winning the event iwth a time of 41.24 The women's team of
Delta Martin,
Kierra Allen,
Kenya Owens and
Angelique McNeal also posted a provisional mark in winning the 4x100-meter relay, in a time of 47.23.
UIndy's women's squad of McNeal, Martin, Allen and
Haley Miller topped the 4x400-meter relay field, winning in a time of 3:53, while the men's team also swept the relays with a top finish in the 4x400. The team of Kindred,
Nick Brattain, Gardner and Flournoy came in first with an NCAA provisional time of 3:14.34.
Mark Martinez won the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:55.22, while
Shirah Bennett took second for UIndy in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.89.
Gardner won the men's 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 47.16, and was followed by three Greyhounds in second, third and fourth place. Flournoy was the race's runner-up, also posting a provisional mark with a 47.44. Kindred took third, and Brattain came in fourth as UIndy took 29 team points in the race.
Gardner and Flournoy also finished one-two in the men's 200-meter dash, with Gardner posting a time of 21.47 and Flournoy coming in at 21.59.
Kindred also won another GLVC title, topping the field with an NCAA provisional mark in the 400-meter hurdles of 53.53. Ben Bertoli came in second at the event, finishing in 54.09.
Miller was the runner-up in the women's 400-meter dash, while three Greyhounds took the top three spots in the women's 100-meter race.
McNeal won the event with a time of 11.81, with Allen and Owens took second and third, respectively for 24 UIndy team points in the event. McNeal also won the 200-meter race, with an NCAA provisional time of 24.51. Allen also posted a provisional time in the race, taking third in 24.60.
Valorie Wagner earned a GLVC title in the women's long jump, with a leap of 5.46 meters, while a trio of Greyhounds took second through fourth in the discus.
Katy Watson headlined the group, finishing runner-up with a toss of 45.51 meters. Her mark was good for an NCAA provisional mark, as was
Courtney Kuzmicz's at 43.00 meters.
Heather Rourk was the first Greyhound champion of the meet, winning the women's javelin with a toss of 36.07 meters.
Matt Royer topped the field in the men's hammer with a provisional mark toss of 60.14 meters, and took a second place finish in the men's shot put, with a mark of 15.24 meters.
Blaze Hurley also took a GLVC title for the first time as a Greyhound, winning the pole vault with an NCAA provisional mark of 4.97 meters.
In all, UIndy posted 13 NCAA provisional marks on the day, and took 14 event championships.
The Greyhounds have a couple more chances to pull out some NCAA qualifying marks, as various members of the squads will head to the University of Louisville, the University of Chicago and the UIndy Twilight Qualifier this weekend.
