2011-12 MEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE
2011-12 WOMEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE
INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Indianapolis tennis coach John Venter has announced the 2011-12 schedule for the men's and women's teams.
The men will play their entire fall schedule away from Indianapolis beginning with their season opener at the DePauw Invitational on Sept. 10-11 to prepare for the ITA Midwest Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich., beginning on Sept. 23. The Greyhounds will also play a trio of dual matches at in-state rival Taylor (Oct. 1) and NCAA Division II in-region match-ups at Cedarville (Oct. 8) and Ohio Dominican (Oct. 9).
"Our men are on the road the entire fall with tough competition at DePauw and at our ITA Regional," Venter said. "We are excited to get some of our players off the injured reserve list and on the court to lead us to a successful fall season."
The men will resume play on Feb. 4 at the UIndy Tennis Center against Georgetown (Ky.) College at 5 p.m. That starts a stretch of six consecutive home matches before the team heads to Kissimmee, Fla., for its annual Spring Break trip March 9-13. During its home stretch, the men will play in-state competition Marian (Feb. 18) and Franklin (Mar. 3), along with 2011 GLVC runner-up No. 20 Drury and Grand Valley State of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
GLVC play begins on March 24 at St. Joseph's and includes home matches against Bellarmine (April 6) and Northern Kentucky (April 7) as the team tries to earn a bid for the GLVC Championships in St. Louis April 20-21.
Women's tennis will play three tournaments in the fall with trips to the DePauw Invitational (Sept. 3-4) and Butler Invitational (Sept. 10-11) before hosting the ITA Midwest Regional at Center Grove High School Sept. 16-18.
"Our women have a really tough fall schedule opening with invitationals at DePauw and Butler before we head into our ITA Regional," Venter said. "It will be important that we are physically ready for the challenge of playing so many tough matches in such a short timespan. But we have a good blend of upper and underclassmen that will push each other to play our best."
The Greyhounds resume play with five straight home matches at the UIndy Tennis Center against Georgetown College (Feb. 4), Marian (Feb. 18), defending GLIAC champion No. 15 Grand Valley State (Feb. 24), defending GLVC champion No. 33 Drury (Feb. 26) and Franklin (Mar. 3). UIndy then heads to Kissimmee, Fla., for Spring Break March 14-18 to prepare for the beginning of GLVC play at St. Joseph's on March 24. The GLVC Championships commence in St. Louis on April 20.
