BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-  The UIndy women's golf team began its 2011-12 campaign close to home, as the ladies competed at the IU Fall Kickoff this weekend.  The Greyhounds (+48) placed fourth among the seven-team field, led by sophomore Amy Thompson's +8.  The 36-hole event was held at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.

Thompson used a second-round 74 to move up from 10th to a share of seventh.  Four other Hounds finished in the top 15, as senior Darin Pinnick (77-79), sophomores Jenny Konop (79-79) and Brianna Scheidler (82-78), and freshman Jaclyn Schindler (80-80) all finished high on the leaderboard.

Freshmen Regan Pittard (84-85) and Chanice Young (88-84) placed 26th and 33rd, respectively, in their first collegiate tournament.

Six of the seven teams hailed from the Hoosier State, including host and team-champ Indiana University (+26).   Division-I schools IUPUI (+35) and Indiana State (+35) tied for second, while Valparaiso (+89), Franklin (+110) and Tennessee-based Christian Brothers (+192) rounded out the field.  Individually, IU's Rosie Davis (72-72) shot even par to grab medalist honors.

UIndy will face a region-heavy field next week when it travels to the Screaming Eagle Golf Classic.  The tournament will be held at Cambridge Golf Course in Evansville, Ind., Sep. 18-19.
