PITTSBURG, Kan.- With the announcement of the second major All-America football team of the day, UIndy quarterback
Chris Mills and wide receiver
Ryan Forney (pictured) garnered honorable mention on the 2011
Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Team Thursday.
After both players received all-region accolades from
Don Hansen earlier this month, Mills and Forney moved on to the national ballot to become one of 183 Division II football players to appear on the
Don Hansen All-America list.
Mills collected his second national award of the day after being named Second Team All-America by D2Football.com this morning. For more info on the sophomore QB, check out the
D2Football.com release on athletics.uindy.edu from earlier today.
Meanwhile, Forney adds his first All-America honor to his trophy case. The senior receiver/return man was named Academic All-America® and Second Team All-Region by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as well as First Team All-GLIAC at both receiver and return specialist.
Forney amassed 80 receptions and 1,131 receiving yards in 2011, both good for second in UIndy's single-season annals. The Crown Point, Ind., native led the conference in punt return average (13.2 yds per) and receptions per game (7.2) on the way to breaking the program mark for all-purpose yards in a season (1,713).
The
Don Hansen Division II All-America Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published
Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
Players from 84 of the nation's 152 D-II football programs earned
Don Hansen All-America accolades. National-champion Pittsburgh State led the way by placing eight players on the All-America squad, while national runner-up Wayne State (Mich.), national-semifinalist Delta State and national-quarterfinalist New Haven (Conn.) garnered seven individuals apiece.
