Greyhound wrestling takes 4th place finish at Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill.- The UIndy wrestling team took a fourth place finish of 31 teams at the 2012 Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational.

A trio of Greyhounds took second-place finishes, with UIndy also getting a fourth, sixth and eighth place finish at the event.

Ethan Harris, the second seed in the 133 bracket, took second overall. Harris went 3-1 over the two-day event, with a 15-1 major decision win in the quarterfinal round.

Justin Kieffer also took a second-place finish for UIndy, in the 141 bracket. Kieffer's 3-1 day included a 4-1 decision over the bracket's No. 2 seed, Josh Malave of Mt. Union.

The Greyhound 184-pounder, Aaron Stevenson, also took runner-up honors on the tournament. Stevenson went 3-1 overall, including a fall in the second round of wrestling. Stevenson fell 4-2 in the championship bout to Wabash's Greg Rhoads.

in the 165 weight class, Jeff Weiss finished fourth for the Greyhounds. Weiss went 3-2 in his run though the bracket, including a fall in the second round of action.

Josh Kieffer took sixth in the 125 bracket, with his tournament highlighted by an 18-4 major decision win in his first match.

Bryce Givens placed eighth in the 157 weight class, going 4-2 over the tournament's two days. Givens had a pair of major decisions in his wins, and fell 7-6 in the seventh/eighth place bout.

Wisconsin-Parkside took the team title at the event with 117.5 total points. Wisconsin-Whitewater took second with 102 points, with Mt. Union finishing third with 92.5 points, just one point in front of the Greyhounds in fourth.

Next up for UIndy is a trip to the 26th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament at Baldwin-Wallace next weekend.
