Four Hounds land on Don Hansen All-Region Team

BROOKFIELD, Ill.-  The Don Hansen Football Committee released the 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Three Team Wednesday, with four Greyhounds making the cut.  Seniors Mike Dum (linebacker) and Ryan Forney (wide receiver) landed on the first team, while junior Mar'Quone Edmonds (wide receiver), sophomore Chris Mills (quarterback) and Forney (return specialist) appeared on the second squad.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010.  Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.  Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.

Senior Mike Dum garnered First Team All-Region accolades at linebacker.  The Bishop Chatard grad tied for sixth in the GLIAC with 96 tackles to finish with a career total of 342, good for 10th all-time at UIndy.  Dum is one of only five Greyhounds to receive the maximum of four all-conference awards.

Forney was named first team all-region at wide out and second team as a return man.  He amassed 80 receptions and 1,131 receiving yards in 2011, both good for second in UIndy's single-season annals.  The Crown Point, Ind., native led the conference in punt return average (13.2 yds per) and receptions per game (7.2) on the way to breaking the program mark for all-purpose yards in a season (1,713).

Both Dum and Forney were also named Academic All-America by CoSIDA.

Second teamers included junior receiver Mar'Quone Edmonds and sophomore quarterback Chris Mills.  Edmonds compiled a whopping 14 receiving touchdowns this past season.  That total was good eighth in Division II, while also snapping a 57-year-old school record for TD catches in a season.  The Waukegan, Ill., native amassed 76 receptions for 965 yards on the way to  All-GLIAC First Team honors.

Mills paced the league in passing yards with 2,980, while setting new single-season school records for TD passes (29), completions (243) and completion percentage (63.8).  He finished the season with just five interceptions, and at one point came just seven attempts shy of breaking the D-II record for most consecutive passes thrown without a pick.

Below is the complete list of 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Three honorees.  The first- and second-team all-region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named later this month.
